Here at The Gabriel Covarrubias Fine Arts Academy, we highly believe, encourage and indorse in our chess program to broaden the minds of our students, to let them exercise their brains in a battle of wits, Chess is an art of mixed emotions, it drives both opponents to out calculate each other moves, it makes them to push their limitations when faced or opposed, theyare motivated to strategically gain a well earned victory when thinking 3 moves ahead. Note: It is scientifically proven by thinking strategically or developing a plan of action (not reputation work), that you multiply brain cells.

A Brief History of Chess

Chess is commonly believed to have originated in North-West India during the Gupta empire, where its early form in the 6th century was known as caturaga (Sanskrit: four divisions [of the military] – infantry, cavalry, elephants, and chariotry), represented by the pieces that would evolve into the modern pawn, knight, bishop, and rook. The earliest evidence of Chess is found in the neighboring Sassanid Persia around 600. The game was taken up by the Muslim world after the Islamic conquest of Persia (633–644). The game reached Western Europe and Russia by the 9th century. By the year 1000 it had spread throughout Europe. Introduced into the Iberian Peninsula (Spain) by the Moors in the 10th century
